Camp Daisy and Harry Stein, owned and operated by Congregation Beth Israel in Scottsdale, is a unique and exciting place. A Jewish overnight summer camp nestled in the majestic Bradshaw Forest of Prescott, Arizona, it is a place where campers discover more about themselves, their abilities, & their Judaism. A summer of fun, a lifetime of memories! We are seeking enthusiastic individuals to have the primary responsibility for campers and their care. This includes living in a cabin and working with co-counselors. Skill Set: Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills Competent and energetic, demonstrating a love of working with young people Displays a high level of personal and professional responsibility A caring, responsible and supportive individual Self-Starter and team player Position Responsibilities: • To have primary responsibility for campers and their care. • To plan and assist in planning activities for the cabin and unit where necessary, including evening programs, special programs, camp outs, and cabin time. • In conjunction with Co-Counselor(s), be responsible for recording and keeping reports on campers as assigned. • To maintain involvement in camp programs including: planning facilitating, set-up, clean-up, and preparation of materials. • To supervise sending and receiving camper mail and laundry. • The requisitioning of needed supplies and equipment, as well as, maintaining and returning any camp equipment used. • To take special care in guidance and supervision of campers during "down times"-early morning, rest hour, bedtime, etc. Campers should never be left without supervision. • Maintain a healthy working relationship with Co-Counselor. Communicate problems or issues with Unit Head. Make sure that all available counselors are present with the cabin group. • To write letters to campers' parents midway through each session, and to have the letters reviewed by your designated Unit Head. The letters should contain both an update and evaluation of the campers. • To evaluate in writing the program, staff, and procedures, making suggestions and recommendations for the future. • To abide by and enforce all camp policies. To sit Shmira (OD) as assigned (supervise cabins at night). The Shamayim Campus Fellowship is a program that gives Jewish vegetarian and vegan college students the tools and support they need to educate their communities about animal advocacy. Through the Shamayim Campus Fellowship, students learn valuable leadership skills, educate themselves and their peers about animal advocacy, and create a lasting change in their communities. A campus fellow will have the opportunity to work directly with the Shamayim team. We will help them hone their activism and leadership skills, develop a plan on how to make animal advocacy a talking point on their campus, and supply them with the tools and funding necessary for tabling, serving vegan food, and other outreach activities. Who should apply: 1. Jewish Vegan or Vegetarian college students 2. Students who want to create change 3. Students who want leadership experience 4. Students who want to meet other students with similar values Responsibilities include: 1. Attending monthly learning calls 2. Hosting and planning events and programs on their campus 3. Submitting summaries and surveys throughout the program At the end of the program, and upon completion of the tasks listed above, fellows can earn a modest stipend. The deadline to apply is June 30th at 11:59pm ET. Interviews are conducted throughout June and July, and selections are announced by the end of July. This year's Fellowship will run from August 2023 --> May 2024.
